During the first part of the tour, a local guide shows some of Húsavík’s best spots and some hidden gems, starting from Húsavíkurkirkja, the iconic wooden church built in 1907, and then moving to Skrúðgarðurinn, the attractive town gardens where the bubbling Búðara flanks the winding path and small wooden bridges criss-cross the brook.
While walking, history, culture and folklore emerge, unusual local tales and fun facts are told.
After crossing all the gardens, the tour continues towards Lake Botnsvatn. The hiking path follows a beautiful route in the countryside and ends up in the southeastern shore of the lake, placed beneath the slopes of Húsavíkurfjall. For keen hikers, an excellent option to extend the tour is the path which goes all around the lake and discloses other corners of this serene and peaceful location.
The way back to Húsavík town is on an old and unpaved very scenic road, in particular when early summer and autumn colours flood the landscape.
