Golden Circle & Secret Lagoon Tour
Spend the day exploring some of Iceland’s most iconic sights and reward yourself with a soak in the magical geothermal waters of the Secret Lagoon.
Combine the best of the most popular tour in Iceland with a relaxing soak in a geothermal pool on the Golden Circle and Secret Lagoon Tour. This tour checks off the top three must-sees in Iceland: Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir geothermal area. And not only that, you round-off your day in typical Icelandic fashion with a dip in a geothermal pool.
Viking-age Democracy
The first stop you’ll make is Thingvellir National Park, a place so rich in history, culture and geological significance that is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk the rift valley between two tectonic plates where Icelanders first established their democracy more than 1,000 years ago and hear the grisly tales of Viking-age justice handed down there.
Natural Wonders
From the birthplace of Iceland’s democracy you’ll head off to witness the power of one of Iceland’s most visited and photographed waterfalls: Gullfoss. Meaning golden falls in Icelandic, Gullfoss is a broad and majestic waterfall that flows down rocky steps before plunging down two tiers into the gorge below. On sunny days, rainbows abound in the mists that rise from the cascade. There are multiple paths around the waterfall, even leading down to it’s bottom, so that you’ll have many vantage points from which to take photos of this impressive waterfall.
Following the grandeur of Gullfoss, you’ll journey on to Geysir geothermal area for a reverse, but just as remarkable water-based spectacle in the geyser Strokkur. While Geysir, the namesake of geysers, no longer erupts with the regularity it used to, Strokkur reliably sends piping hot water shooting to the air every few minutes.
Secret Lagoon
After seeing the most iconic sites in Iceland, it will be time to partake in the most Icelandic of all past times, going to the pool. Because it is so geothermally active, all of the pools in Iceland are geothermally heated and the Secret Lagoon is the oldest among them, built in 1891. The Secret Lagoon is fed by a natural hot spring and features newly renovated facilities making bathing in the Secret Lagoon the perfect end to a perfect day.
