Embark on an exciting journey to Iceland's second tallest waterfall, Glymur, located just an hour's drive from Reykjavik. This moderate to difficult 6.5-kilometer (4-mile) round-trip hike will take you through some of Iceland's most stunning scenery and breathtaking landscapes.

We'll begin our adventure at the end of the Hvalfjörður (Whale Fjord) and start our ascent up a steep and rocky path. As we climb higher, the views of the fjord and surrounding mountains will become increasingly more spectacular.

The trail takes us through a lush forest, across a series of streams and rivers, and along the edge of a steep cliff, all while providing a thrilling challenge for adventurous hikers. Once we reach the waterfall, we'll cross a narrow log over a roaring river to get to the other side, adding an extra dash of excitement to the hike.

The Glymur waterfall plunges 198 meters (650 feet) down a sheer rock face, creating a misty spray that adds to the natural beauty of the surroundings. We'll take our time at the waterfall, giving you plenty of opportunities to take stunning photos, enjoy the scenery, and appreciate the raw power of nature.

The hike back down follows the same route and provides more opportunities to enjoy the views and test your hiking skills. Along the way, you may even spot native bird species, such as ptarmigans, adding an extra touch of adventure to this already thrilling journey.

This is an epic adventure that will test your mettle, stamina, and sense of adventure. So, wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring plenty of water and snacks, and join us on this unforgettable journey to Glymur waterfall!

  1. Sturdy hiking shoes: The Glymur trail can be steep and rocky, so wearing comfortable and sturdy hiking shoes is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable hike.
  2. Warm and waterproof clothing: Iceland's weather can be unpredictable, so it's important to dress in layers and wear waterproof clothing to stay warm and dry throughout the hike.
  3. Backpack: Bring a backpack to carry your water, snacks, and any additional gear you may need for the hike.
  4. Water bottle: Staying hydrated is crucial during a hike, so be sure to bring plenty of water to drink throughout the trek.
  5. Snacks: Pack some high-energy snacks such as nuts, granola bars, or fruit to keep you fueled and energized during the hike.
  6. Camera: The Glymur waterfall hike offers breathtaking views and stunning landscapes, so bring a camera to capture the beauty of Iceland's natural wonders.
  7. Hat and sunglasses: Protect yourself from the sun and wind by bringing a hat and sunglasses.
  8. Insect repellent: Insects such as mosquitoes can be common in Iceland, especially during the summer months, so consider bringing insect repellent to ward off any pesky bugs.
