Gay West Iceland Safari
A LGTB Tour
Nature, history, adventure, goats & cosy countryside. Includes cave visit or geothermal pool visit!
Glacier carved landscape and ancient curvy rivers, Iceland’s largest lava cave and the worlds’ most powerful hot spring – These are just few of our favorite things on Pink Iceland West Safari. On our journey West we will drive through the tranquil Whale fjord “bay” – which is rarely visited these days. The name of Whale fjord bay is uncertain but most believe the name derives from an old legend of Rauðhöfði the infamous Red Headed Whale whose Reign of terror ended with his heart exploding on top of Whale Mountain. But like so many of our folktales it all started with an angry elf.
Deildartunguhver is the world’s most powerful hot spring and main energy source for most of the West vicinity. Icelanders have utilized geothermal reservoirs from the get-go and proof of that is nearby Snorralaug (Snorri’s pool) 1000+ year old (renovated) hot tub. Named after Snorri Sturluson – prominent medieval author of the epical Poetic Eddas. After a hard day's work scribbling down what would later become invaluable world literature, he would relax in his privately owned hot tub.
In this tour you choose between visiting the underworld of Víðgelmir cave or the newly built Krauma geothermal baths.
Víðgelmir Cave: ,,The stunning beauty of Víðgelmir lava cave lies in the amazing colors and rock formations that used to hide in the dark. But not any more! This impressive cave can now be enjoyed with all that it has to offer.”
Krauma Geothermal baths: ,,Krauma offers five relaxing natural geothermal baths, a cold tub to get your blood circulation going, two calming saunas and a relaxation room where you can rest by the fireplace while listening to soothing music.”
Next up are the wonders of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss or Children’s falls, a series of waterfalls formed by rivulets streaming over a distance of about 900 meters out of the massive Hallmundarhraun lava field. The waterfalls will usually be our last stop but if during some parts of the year and if we're lucky the Icelandic goat farm may be open for a visit! If so we'll hang out with a few of the remaining Icelandic goats. These gentle, cuddly and curious animals are on brink of extinction but by selfless dedication and determination our friendly local goat breeder is keeping the stock alive and inviting you over for a cup of coffee and time spent with the animals.
Our private tours offer flexibility and freedom to veer off the beaten track, change the itinerary due to weather and cater to everyone's culinary interests.
Transfers in a comfy 4×4, English speaking storyteller and light refreshments on the way.
Weather appropriate clothing and swimwear if you choose the Krauma geothermal experience over the cave.
