A hike with a local guide to the top of the beautiful liparite mountain (527 m) and a local-style picnic out in Gods green nature.

  • energy snacks for the hike
  • a guided hike
  • light lunch and beverages
  • coffee and chocolates

We meet in Stykkishólmur and from there we go to the foot of Drápuhlíðarfjall. There, the guide tells about the geology of the mountain and folk tales related to it. Each person receives a small bag with energy-rich snacks to have on the hike. Then we set off, aiming for the top but this is a moderately difficult walk, 4.6 km long and the ascent is 495 m. This mountain is famous for its beautiful colors due to bright, yellowish liparite rock that dominates, but you can also find strange pebbles filled with crystal formation, flaky rock and then the hardy, wonderfully beautiful heather vegetation. There is a lot to see on the way and we have plenty of time. It is hard to describe the feeling of joy and freedom flowing over you standing on top of Drápuhliðarfjall mountain and looking in all directions, over Breiðafjörður, all the islands, the rugged Berserkjahraun lava and the mountain ridge that ripples along the entire Snæfellsnes. During and after the hike, hikers deserve and enjoy a local style picnic including bubbles, coffee, chockolates and more. After our picnic, we head back to Stykkishólmur and say our goodbyes.
