CROWN JEWEL; KJARAN’S AVENUE & DYNJANDI – jeep tour
Enjoy the exceptional Kjaran’s avenue, which is anything but an avenue! This unique road constructions, claimed to be mission impossible, named after its builder, who made the road in his own spare time by a small bulldozer. Near Svalvogar, the one-way jeep track is carved into the mountain, which looms above you and the steep cliffs are almost vertical under your feet down to the ocean. On the stony beach of Skútabjörg, one better be aware of the sea tide. This is one of the most incredible road constructions in Iceland and the scenery en-route is incomparable. This magnificent tour leaves no one untouched for its unique landscape and sheer thrilling drive experience.
We get close to Kaldbakur, the highest mountain in Westfjords and might hike the top to enjoy incomparable scenery, weather and road conditions permitting. Alternatively we take the old winding main road through Hrafnseyrarheiði, which is closed for 6-8 months every year due to snow.
We stop at the unique Dynjandi waterfall, one of Iceland’s most beautiful waterfalls and the largest in the Westfjords, ca. 100 meters high and up to 60 meters wide. A hiking path leads up to the central gorge of the waterfall, allowing visitors to come close enough to touch the water as it tumbles down into the depths.
Various stops and refreshments on our way.
Local guidance in English, jeep transportation and entrance to Hrafnseyri museum.
