Fagrifoss and Fjadrargljufur Canyon

Your guide will pick you up his Super Jeep, and whisk you into a remote region that few get the chance to access; the road goes over bumpy trails and across deep rivers, in stunning landscape making for an exciting journey.

Your first destination is the little-known Fagrifoss waterfall, nestled deep in the mountains. You will stop to admire its scale and picturesque beauty, as well as its dramatic, verdant surroundings.  The name of the waterfall means literally beautiful Fall.  We, the locals think that this waterfall is the most beautiful in Iceland and we are confident that you will too.

Your guide will then escort you above Fjaðrárgjlúfur Canyon.  There is a marked trail downhill by the edge of the canyon and during a roughly thirty-five-minute hike you will marvel over its sheer walls and the azure waters running below.   Fjadrargljufur is often referred to as the most beautiful one in the world. You need not repeat your trail when you come to the canyon end, as your Super Jeep will be waiting for you at its base.

Unique Craters of Landbrotshólar

You will then continue your tour, admiring the marvelous surrounding nature on the cusp of the Southern Highlands, to Landbrotshólar. This is a huge area with thousands of specially formed volcanic craters called pseudo-craters, and such features are incredibly rare around the world; they are much more common, unusually, on the planet Mars and in Iceland. You will have the chance to enter one of the craters and to explore the lava, as your guide tells you all about their unique geological history.

Finally, you will return to the super jeep and be whisked back to Kirkjubæklaustur.

If you are staying outside Kirkjubæjarklausutur area please select pick up at the petrol station N1 in Kirkjubæjarklaustur. You can park your car there while taking the tour. Please be ready 15 minutes before departure.
