Borgarfjörður eystri: E-Bike & Hike to Lake Urðarhólavatn
This combination biking and hiking tour takes you into the Víknaslóðir Wilderness to explore geology, history and myth.
Explore a hidden gem in an eco-friendly way in this combination Biking & Hiking tour. This tour takes you beyond the reach of your rental car and goes further into the Víknaslóðir Wilderness, an ancient part of Iceland and formerly populated by sustenance farmers, now deserted and home only to sheep and birds. The goal of this tour is reaching Lake Urðarhólavatn, an alpine lake in a rhyolite basin created through the combined forces of ancient volcanic activity and glacial erosion. After a short stop at the lake we continue to the twin lakes of Gæsavötn, the goose lakes. These two lakes overlook the inner valley of Breiðavík, a once prosperous farming community. After delighting in the mountain halls we return to our bikes and ride down the hill and back to the village.
