BIRD CLIFFS & BEAUTIFUL BEACHES – biking
The tour starts at the Westfjords Adventures office in Patreksfjörður from where we will drive 60 km to the Látrabjarg cliffs. Breathtaking landscape, white sand beaches, the turquoise color of the ocean – the unique characteristics of Southern Westfjords – are all around us. Látrabjarg is the western-most point of Europe, stunning high cliff of 14 km and up to 440 m high, the biggest sea bird colony in the Northern Atlantic. This is the best place in the world to photograph puffins and other sea birds; magnificent grey seals might be lying on the rocks under the cliffs. Please note that the birds have usually migrated from early August to mid August. It is great fun to cycle from Látrabjarg to the interesting Heritage Museum at Hnjótur, in which we learn about people's lifestyle in the old days, how they rescued foreign fishermen from stranded ships under the Látrabjarg cliffs, and how important Látrabjarg and the sea were in the locals' life. Refreshment at the museum is optional. From Hnjótur we cycle to the breathtaking Rauðasandur, Iceland's most famous beach, red colored in a beautiful setting of black cliffs and blue ocean. The local guide will take you to incredible view points. The highlights of this tour are intimate encounter with wild nature, stunning landscape, amazing birdlife, high speed, action and culture.
Local guidance in English, bike, helmet, transportation and entrance to the Heritage Museum at Hnjótur.
