ITINERARY
DAY 1: Reykjavík to Löðmundur
📍 8 km | 450m elevation gain | 6-8 hours
We’ll start the adventure with an early morning pick-up in Reykjavík, then drive deep into the highlands. Today’s trail takes us toward Löðmundur, often called the "king of the mountains" in the Landmannalaugar region. Expect moss-covered trails, volcanic ridges, and sweeping views that stretch far beyond the horizon. After the hike, we’ll settle into our mountain hut—our home for the next two nights—where we’ll unwind, enjoy a nourishing meal, and soak up the endless summer daylight.
DAY 2: Landmannalaugar’s Best Trails
📍 15-18 km | 600-800m elevation gain | 7-9 hours
After breakfast, we’ll pack our lunches and set out for a full day of exploring Landmannalaugar’s most iconic trails. Depending on the group’s preferences and the weather, we might hike Grænihryggur, Uppgönguhryggur, Skalli, or Bláhnjúkur—each offering a mix of dramatic ridges, steaming geothermal areas, and sweeping mountain views. Expect rugged lava fields, loose scree, river crossings, and trails that challenge and reward in equal measure. After the hike, we’ll relax in Landmannalaugar’s natural hot springs before returning to the hut for another well-earned dinner.
DAY 3: Waterfalls, Viking Ruins & Hidden Gems
We’ll kick off the final day with breakfast before heading out on a scenic drive back toward Reykjavík, stopping at some of the highlands’ best-kept secrets along the way.
📍 Háifoss Waterfall – At 122 meters, one of Iceland’s tallest and most stunning waterfalls. A perfect spot to pause and take it all in.
📍 Stöng – A preserved Viking-era farmstead that offers a glimpse into Iceland’s past and some fantastic photo opportunities.
📍 Gjáin – A fairytale-like valley with cascading waterfalls, basalt columns, and lush greenery.
📍 Augað ("The Eye") – A crystal-clear natural spring hidden in the highlands.
Lunch today? A classic Icelandic hot dog BBQ, because some traditions are too good to skip. We’ll arrive back in Reykjavík by late afternoon—tired, happy, and with enough stories to last a lifetime.

ITINERARY
DAY 1: Reykjavík To Löðmundur
8 km | 450m elevation gain | 6-8 hours
Our journey begins early in Reykjavík, where we’ll pick you up and head into the heart of Iceland’s wild highlands. After a scenic 2.5-hour drive, we’ll arrive at the starting point for our hike. Our first destination is Löðmundur, known as the “king of the mountains” in the Landmannalaugar region. We will do a trek through lush, moss-covered paths and volcanic landscapes that will take your breath away. The hike covers 8 km with an elevation gain of 450m. Afterward, we’ll settle into a typical Icelandic mountain hut, our base for the next two nights where we will enjoy endless summer daylight and the powerful highland atmosphere. We’ll wrap up the day with a delicious and nutritious dinner at the hut, perfect for recharging after a day on the trails.
DAY 2: Landmannalaugar Trails
15-18 km | 600-800m elevation gain | 7-9 hours
We’ll kick off the day with breakfast to fuel up before our hike. We’ll also pack our own lunches and trail mix to keep us energized on the trails. Collectively, we will choose the trail depending on the group’s wishes and weather conditions. Options include Grænihryggur, Uppgönguhryggur, Skalli, or Bláhnjúkur. The difficulty and length of the hikes vary from 15-18 km and an elevation gain from 600-800m. Expect rugged lava fields, steep ridges, loose gravel (scree), and river crossings. Iceland’s wilderness trails are all about epic mountain views and dramatic landscapes. After the hike, we’ll relax in the natural hot springs of Landmannalaugar before heading back to our hut for another wholesome dinner.
DAY 3: Scenic Drive and Hidden Gems
We’ll start the final day with breakfast at the hut, preparing us for the final leg of the adventure. For lunch, we’ve got something special planned—a classic Icelandic hot dog BBQ. On our way back to Reykjavík, we’ll make a stop at the 122m tall Háifoss waterfall, a perfect spot to pause and soak in the beauty of Highlands. Next, we’ll descend and explore Stöng, an ancient Viking farmstead that offers a glimpse into Iceland’s history and some great photo opportunities. Not far from Stöng is the fairytale-like Gjáin with waterfalls, columnar basalt, and lush vegetation. We will also visit the unique Augað or “The eye” which is a beautiful clear spring. We’ll arrive back in Reykjavík by late afternoon, with stunning photographs, unforgettable memories and so many stories to share.
