• Landmannalaugar and Eldgjá Canyon – Super Jeep Private Tour – For 1 to 4 Persons

  We depart from the village Kirkjubæjarklaustur. On this tour we drive the mountain road F208 to Landmannalaugara. The F208 is a challenging mountain route only suitable for 4×4 vehicles. It takes us through some of Iceland’s most stunning and rugged landscapes in the highlands of Iceland and offers access to various natural attractions. The route is challenging but incredibly rewarding for those who want to experience the untouched and dramatic natural beauty of the highlands of Iceland.

  On our way our guide will give a briefing about Skaftáreldar as we drive through the lava from the Skaftáreldar eruptions on our way to F208. We will stop in Hólaskjól Highlands Centre where we look at the hidden waterfall that has no name. From there we will drive in your 4×4 vehicle to the Eldgja Canyon.

  Eldgja is a fissure created by eruptions that took place in the year 934. The fissure is 60 km long and forms a canyon that extends from the mountain Gjátindur to the glacier Mýrdalsjökull in the southeast. We will observe the fissure and take a good look at the waterfall Ófærufoss. Eldgja Canyon is placed in the Vatnajökull National park.

  The total lava flow from the Eldgja eruption is estimated to be around 19 km3. That makes the Eldgja eruption the most volumetric lava flow from one eruption in historical time. The origins of the Eldgja eruption are from the Katla volcano system. We will have a few alternatives if travelers want to do a short hike for 1 – 2 hours depending on the wants of the travelers.

  Od Eldgja we follow the 4×4 track through the mountains to Landmannalaugara. We will drive through several rivers and streams on our way.

  Landmannalaugara is well known for its colorful mountains, hot springs, and beautiful lava fields. We stop for a while in Landmannalaugara. Travelers can take a bath in one of the hot springs and relax before we drive back. Hiking is optional for those who are willing to wear down their hiking boots. We stop for 3 hours in Landmannalaugara. Our guide will offer a 2 hour trek through the Laugahraun Lava to Brennisteinsalda and back to Landmannalaugara through the Grænagil Canyon. This trek is 4,5 km and not technically complex. We will observe bubbling rivers, geothermal hot springs, beautiful lava, and colorful mountains.

  Landmannalaugara is in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve. It is a protected wilderness area that is known for its rugged and dramatic landscapes, geothermal features, colorful rhyolite mountains, and pristine wilderness.
