A peaceful coastal village with brightly painted houses, a world-class ghost museum, and some of Iceland's most famous home-cooked lobster soup restaurants.

Stokkseyri is a small village on the South Coast, neighbour to Eyrarbakki, known for two very different attractions: its superb langoustine (lobster) restaurants — among the most celebrated in Iceland for their traditional home-cooked style — and the Icelandic Wonders museum, which houses a highly regarded ghost exhibition (Dragsúgur) exploring Icelandic folklore about elves, hidden people, and the spirits of the dead.

The village sits right on the shoreline of the South Coast, separated from the Atlantic by a narrow gravel ridge. The flat landscape and wide skies make for excellent birdwatching, and the seashore walk offers views to the Westman Islands on clear days.

Stokkseyri is reached via Route 34, about fifteen kilometres from Selfoss. It can easily be combined with Eyrarbakki for a half-day excursion from the Golden Circle area. Restaurants here are known to fill quickly in summer — booking ahead is recommended.
