One of Iceland's tallest waterfalls, Háifoss plunges 122 metres into a dramatic, steep-walled canyon in the central Highlands.

Háifoss — literally “High Waterfall” — drops 122 metres from the rim of Fossárdalur canyon, making it the third-tallest waterfall in Iceland. The sheer scale of the two-tier drop, framed by towering basalt cliffs, is awe-inspiring even by Icelandic standards.

Standing at the canyon edge, you can see both Háifoss and its smaller neighbour Granni side by side, plunging into the same emerald-green gorge far below. The contrast of dark lava walls, vivid greenery, and white cascading water makes this one of the most photogenic spots in the country.

Access is via Route 332 off the Þjórsárdalur valley road — a rough gravel track that requires a high-clearance vehicle (4×4 recommended). The overlook viewpoint is a short walk from the parking area. Best visited June to September when the road is passable.
