Located between three powerful glaciers — Eyjafjallajökull, Mýrdalsjökull, and Tindfjallajökull — Þórsmörk offers scenery unlike anywhere else in Iceland. Because of this unique location, the valley features dramatic mountain ridges, glacier rivers, and sheltered forests.
Travel takes place in a specially modified Súper jeep, built for Iceland’s rugged mountain roads. These powerful vehicles can safely cross glacial rivers and rough Highland tracks. As a result, remote parts of the valley become accessible.
Throughout the journey, your guide shares stories about the volcanic forces that shaped the landscape. In addition, several stops allow time to explore the scenery and enjoy short hikes.

We depart from Reykjavík in the morning and start heading east towards the Valley of Thor. As we drive along road F249 into Þórsmörk, we will begin to see the effects of the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption. We will stop at Gígjökull Glacier and take a short hike through the powerful landscape. From there, we will head on to Húsadalur, where we will spend the night, where the BBQ and the serenity await us.
We will explore Þórsmörk even better on the second day, just after breakfast. We will go for a drive and take hikes in the beautiful nature. After our exploration, we will head back towards civilization, making stops at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall and the black sand beaches before returning to Reykjavík.
