Parque Nacional Thingvellir is a landmark of great geological, historical and cultural significance. The UNESCO designated world heritage site is where Iceland’s parliament, Althingi, was founded in 930 AD and is also where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates slowly drift apart. You will walk the grounds where the nation’s leaders would meet to decide on the laws of the land and where criminals were brought to justice.

Geysir – the godfather of geysers Home of the namesake of all geysers “The Great Geysir” hot spring, this area is dotted with bubbling puddles, whistling steam vents, and colorful algae deposits. Although Great Geysir is currently dormant, the nearby Strokkur geyser puts on quite the show every few minutes blasting boiling water high up into the air.

Gullfoss – the golden falls Continuing along an area of breathtaking mountains and valleys, you arrive at the all-powerful Gullfoss waterfall on the Hvíta River. Once there, you can get up close and personal with the two-tiered waterfall by walking along the many paths around the cascading water.

  • Day 4: Snæfellsnes National Park Private Tour – 12 Hrs

On this private tour of Snaefellsnes National Park, you’ll leave Reykjavik behind and embark on a scenic journey to a peninsula that has fascinated visitors and locals alike for generations. On the way up to Snaefellsnes, you stop in an area known as Borgarfjörður home to the village of Borgarnes. There will be a brief stop in Borgarnes for refreshments and to enjoy the local flavor of this delightful town. Local Wildlife Traveling further north and west, you’ll reach the Snæfellsnes peninsula and will stop at Ytri-Tunga Farm. There you’ll get a chance to try and spot some of the local wildlife. The beach at Ytri-Tunga is home to a seal colony, as well as a variety of seabirds. Village Life Next up is a stop in one of the many villages that make their livelihood from the sea, idyllic Arnarstapi. Here, you’ll take a break for lunch, but before that, you can go for a walk and take in the extraordinary landscape, which includes a shoreline made of an abruptly plunging cliff. Lifting Stones, Shipwreck & Literature The tour continues after lunch to Djúpalónssandur, a peaceful, black-pebbled beach with gorgeous views of the sea. You will be felt in on the stories behind the lifting stones found on the beach and as well as the remnants of a shipwreck. Looking inland from the beach is the scenic view of the glacier Snæfellsjökull. While stunning in its own right, this glacier was made famous when writer Jules Verne located his entrance to the center of the earth beneath this ice cape in his novel, “Journey to the Centre of the Earth.” The Stand-Alone Mountain From Djúpalónssandur head over to the north coast of Snæfellsnes peninsula to Grundarfjörður fishing village. Stunning mountains surround Grundarfjörður. Not only that, but it is also where you will find the peninsula’s most iconic and photographed landmark, the fascinatingly symmetrical mountain, Kirkjufell. It soars 1500 ft. up from the shoreline, cutting an imposing figure in the surrounding landscape. .On the Trail of Berserks From beneath the shadow of Kirkjufell, you will cross Berserkjahraun lava fields. According to Viking legends, this lava field was where two Swedish “Berserks” made the first road in Iceland. You’ll make your way over the peninsula to the south side by ways of Vatnaleið pass and make your way back to Reykjavik.

Enjoy a magical journey into Faxaflói bay with our expert crew and specially trained naturalists. Explore the whales of Reykjavík under the excellent guidance of our marine biologist guides and learn all about the incredible wildlife that call Iceland their home. The bay is even full of birdlife, from puffins and gannets to guillemots and more, that actively feed on the plentiful fish found in the bay. Magnificent landscapes surround the area and add a unique contrast to the vast ocean, where the spectacular views on the horizon are certainly not to be missed. The whales are most abundant in summer, giving us a great chance to enjoy and understand them in their natural environment. Each year continues to surprise us however with the variety of whales we see in winter, and as our research shows, more and more whales are staying in the area all year round!

This tour takes you on a journey to explore the capital city’s top attractions, learn interesting facts and hear riveting stories. It provides an excellent opportunity to discover the various sights to see or activities to do in Reykjavík during your holiday in Iceland. The tour begins at the old Höfði house where the historic summit between American president Ronald Reagan and Russian president Mikhail Gorbatsjov took place in 1986. Höfði house is also believed to be home to a ghost known as the White Lady. The tour continues to the stunning Harpa concert hall and conference center which was the winner of the 2013 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture—the Mies van der Rohe Award. Next up is the city center where we will see the infamous Hallgrímskirkja church, whose unique design was inspired by the basalt lava columns—a common volcanic rock formation in Icelandic nature.
