The Golden Circle
A tourist route in Southern Iceland with many Icelandic natural features: lagoons, geysers, and stunning nature reserves.
The Golden Circle is one of the most popular routes for visitors in Iceland to take for a 1 or 2-day trip. Located in Southern Iceland, from Reykjavík driving around the loop it can be 300 kilometers. The tours can change a little bit between them, but here are the 6 stops we recommend you to make:
- Þingvellir National Park
Þingvellir (Thingvellir) is a historic site and national park in Iceland and it sits on a rift valley caused by the split of two tectonic plates.
- Gullfoss Waterfall
This is an iconic waterfall from the Hvitá River with a height of 32 meters.
- Geysers Geysir & Strokkur
Geysir is a famous hot spring in the geothermal area of Haukadalur Valley, and it is also known as the Great Geysir due to its importance. Strokkur, on the other hand, is a smaller geyser besides the Hvitá River and it is famous because it erupts every 5 to 10 minutes.
- Kerið
This volcanic crater is a beautiful attraction in Grímsnes area. It is considered as an additional stop in the Golden Circle tour, but it is one of the most stunning views you will find in this tour.
- Secret Lagoon
The Secret Lagoon is a natural hot spring created in 1891.
