Private Golden Circle
The perfect day trip from Reykjavik
The Golden Circle is one of Iceland's most famous and popular tourist routes, known for its stunning natural attractions and cultural landmarks. It is a circular route in southwestern Iceland that covers approximately 300 kilometers (186 miles) and is easily accessible from Reykjavik, making it a popular day trip.
Þingvellir National Park (Thingvellir): This UNESCO World Heritage Site holds historical and geological significance. It is the site of the ancient Icelandic parliament, Alþingi, established in 930 AD, making it one of the world's oldest parliamentary assemblies. Thingvellir is also located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet. Visitors can walk between the plates along a rift valley and even go snorkeling or diving in the Silfra Fissure, a crystal-clear glacial spring.
Geysir Geothermal Area: Located in the Haukadalur Valley, this geothermal area is home to a variety of geysers and hot springs. The most famous geyser is Geysir itself, which has become less active in recent years, but the nearby Strokkur geyser erupts regularly, shooting hot water and steam into the air every few minutes.
Gullfoss Waterfall: Often referred to as the "Golden Falls," Gullfoss is one of Iceland's most iconic waterfalls. The Hvítá River cascades in two stages, creating a dramatic and powerful waterfall that plunges into a deep canyon.
