The South shore of Iceland hosts many magnificent nature spots and it is a must see in Iceland. This is a scenic drive along the south shore of this volcanic island, characterized by glaciers, waterfalls, mountains, volcanoes and black sand beaches.

You will get to stop along the south shore and breathe in the fresh air while enjoying the landscape and history.

On your first stop you will have the opportunity to walk behind the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall and breathe in its glory from all angles. Seljalandsfoss waterfall plunges 65 meters (213 feet) down from the world known Eyjafjallajokull glacier. The nature and rock formations are also worth a close look.

We continue our drive to the Village of Vik i Myrdal valley, an old fishing village, where you will have the chance to stop at a restaurant / cafe for lunch.

Vik village is famous for the Reynisdrangar Cliffs, a basalt sea stacks rising up from the sea just off the shore, a breathtaking view. Legend says that the stacks originated when two trolls dragged a three-masted ship to land unsuccessfully and when daylight broke they became needles of rock

After lunch we head out to Reynisfjara black sand beach, the most famous beach in Iceland. Reynisfjara beach is known for the majestic rock formations made from basalt columns. We can find this spectacular black sand beach where the waves from the Atlantic ocean power ashore with its tremendous force.

The sand at Reynisfjara beach is black because of ancient volcanic rocks made from hot lava, cool down and are eroded down into tiny fragments. This beach is one of not so many black sand beaches in the world and the view is extremely beautiful.

Your next stop will be Dyrholaey peninsula, a small peninsula plunging 120 meters (393 feet) up from the ocean, with a hole in the middle. You will have a beautiful view over Reynisfjara beach and Reynisdrangar cliffs from there.

Proceeding with the tour back to Reykjavik you will have the chance to stop at Skogafoss waterfall, which plunges 60 meters (196 feet) down from Eyjafjallajokull glacier. This glorious waterfall is 25 meters (85 feet) wide. You will have time to walk up 370 steps to the top of the waterfall and enjoy the scenic view over the south shore in all its glory.

At Skogafoss you can find Hotel Skogafoss, where you can drop in at the restaurant if hungry. A great restaurant with good service.

On the way to Reykjavik you will have the chance to stop at The Lava Centre if you please. The Lava Centre is a new exhibition that has become known for it’s interactive, high-tech exhibition and education into volcanic activity, earthquakes and how Iceland got created over millions of years. The lava centre has interactive displays of nature's forces that have shaped our planet and created Iceland.

This is one of our top selling tours and is very popular amongst nature lovers of all kind. The nature is breathtaking and everyone should experience this landscape at least once in their life. We guarantee all our client’s high standard and professionalism, and we strive to make your journey in Iceland a dream come true.
