We’ll drive for about 2 hours to Landeyjahöfn, where we’ll hop on a ferry to the Westman Islands. The 45-minute boat ride shows off the islands’ unique cliffs and slopes. We’ll spend roughly 5 hours on Heimaey, the biggest and only inhabited island in the chain, formed by volcanic eruptions underwater.
We’ll check out the volcanic history of the islands at the Eldheimar Museum. Then, we’ll head to Stórhöfi, the windiest spot in Europe, with awesome views of the Westman Islands. We’ll also see the Elephant Rock, puffins and the remains of the original settlers’ farmhouse.
