Journey to the Center of the Earth / Private Tour
The magnificent landscape and incredible histories of the Snæfellsnes peninsula
We’ll drive through quaint fishing villages of the northern part of the peninsula where you’ll see one of Iceland’s most picturesque mountains, Kirkjufell and one of Iceland's most photographed waterfall, Kirkjufellsfoss. We’ll then enter the Snæfellsjökull National Park, named after the Snæfellsjökull Volcano which towers over the area. The 700,000 year old volcano, now covered by a glacier plays a pivotal role in Jules Verne's classic Sci-Fi novel the Journey to the Center of the Earth as the location of lava tubes reaching all the way to the earth's core. Jules's groundbreaking novel has inspired a number of films and TV shows you might want to see if you can find before visting the area yourself!
The Snæfellsnes National Park is covered by fields of lava that have flowed down the slopes of the volcano creating a truly unique landscape of moss covered lava fields, black pebble beaches, coastal cliffs and other-worldy wonders. Said to be one of the seven great energy centres of the earth, the glacier has been attributed various mystical powers and many who visit claim to experience an amazing connection to Mother Earth and her powers while others feel the presence of elves and trolls all around them. Regardless of any spiritual or magical connections all agree that the Snæfellsnes Peninsula is beautiful and and awe-inspiring.
You simply cannot go wrong with a visit to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and while it's a long tour it's one well worth doing.
