Private South Coast tour
Visit the most popular attractions the South Coast of Iceland has to offer with a private tour. You will be rewarded with dramatic and breathtaking views that are nothing short of amazing. Send information to [email protected].
Explore the wild, powerful beauty of Iceland and delve deep into the beating heart of our vibrant country. Travel with us through the rugged gems of the South Coast on this day tour: grand waterfalls, volcanic beaches, a glacier tongue, and a charming fishing village surrounded by cliffs full of birds.
The Viking Trail leads us out of Reykjavik towards the prominent agricultural towns of Selfoss and Hvollsvöllur. We make a stop at the ever-popular Seljalandsfoss where, and if conditions allow, we take a walk behind the waterfall’s curtain before paying a visit to its nearby cousin Gljúfrabúi, found hidden from view in the mountainside.
Then it’s back on the road to hunt down yet another of Iceland’s famous waterfalls; this time it’s the impressive Skógafoss with its dramatic 60-meter fall. Here we will take a moment to savor yet another of Mother Earth’s superb creations before heading in the direction of one of the most visited towns in the country: Vík í Mýrdal. This small coastal village is the only one of its kind in the country since it has no harbour. From the church, we can take amazing photos of a fantastic panoramic view not only over the village but also the coast beyond.
Having now reached our most Southern point, we are about to turn and make our way back to the black sand beaches of Reynisfjara where we spend some time exploring and soaking up the atmosphere of these dramatic environs.
But we are not done yet! Back on the Viking Trail we go, this time taking the coast road and heading towards Sólheimajökull glacier. Having now placed a foot upon the glacier, we return to Reykjavik where you will be able to browse through the photos you have taken all day of the magnificent scenery that this tour offers.
To make the best out of your day, you can ask us to book one of the following extra activities*:
Snowmobiling: South Iceland is certainly spectacular from “below” but nothing tops experiencing it from “above”. The snowmobile tour goes to the top of Mýrdalsjökull glacier – an icecap covering one of Iceland’s largest volcanoes, Katla.
ATV/QUAD Tour: This tour will allow you to enjoy the magnificent and unique landscape formed by the volcano Katla which now lies dormant under the icecap Mýrdalsjökull. Weather and visibility allowing, a great view of the glacier and along the coastline to Dyrhólaey can be enjoyed.
Glacier Hike: We will lead you through a frozen wonderland of different shades of glacier ice. The spectacular colors of the ice can be white, blue, or crystal clear. You will safely view deep crevasses and water cauldrons, along with other interesting features of the glacier. During the glacier hike, you will have
Katla Ice Cave: The cave is accessible year-round and can be explored by different means of transportation, including hiking, glacier trucks, or Super Jeeps.
plenty of photo opportunities. Visitors can enjoy a scenic hike through the cave, with guided tours available, and learn about the cave's formation and history from qualified guides. The Katla Ice Cave is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Iceland's natural wonders and geology.
