During the first part of the tour, a local guide shows some of Húsavík’s best spots and some hidden gems, starting from Húsavíkurkirkja and Skrúðgarðurinn, then moving to the slopes of Húsavíkurfjall to climb up to the top of the 417 mt high mountain from where to enjoy an unsurpassed view over the town and the bay.

– Local English-speaking guide for the duration of the tour

During the first part of the tour, a local guide shows some of Húsavík’s best spots and some hidden gems, starting from Húsavíkurkirkja, the iconic wooden church built in 1907, and then moving a panoramic viewpoint over the harbour, heart of the town in the past which even nowadays, in a different way, is the core of the local community.

While walking, history, culture and folklore emerge, unusual local tales and fun facts are told.

The hardest part of the tour starts when, from the football field, the path climbs on the green and gentle slopes more and more until the last section is rather steep. Húsavíkurfjall is a unique landmark located just behind Húsavik. Measuring 417 mt above sea level, it is not much more than a hill but, 0nce on the top, you are rewarded with an astonishing view over the town, its sparkling Skjálfandi Bay and the elegant high mountains across, Kinnarfjöll, where snow never totally melts.

The way back to Húsavík is first on an easy unpaved very scenic road which reveals the charm of the sinuous coastline and the distinctive silhouette of Lundey standing out above the water of the bay. The last section of the tour follows the main road, which crosses a major tectonic fissure just before getting back to town.
