The Einar Jónsson Museum
The first Icelandic Sculptor
Einar Jónsson was Iceland’s first sculptor. In 1899 he finished his studies in the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and then presented his first public work in 1901 known as “Outlaws”.
The museum has a beautiful garden with some of the artist’s work, the building that includes a penthouse apartment, where Jónsson and his wife Anna Jorgensen used to live.
In 1909, the artist gave all of this artworks as a gift to the country and the people and the museum was built in his own house.
