Landmannalaugar
The hiking paradise in South Iceland.
Located in the Highlands of South Iceland in Fjallabak Nature Reserve, Landmannalaugar (the people’s pools) is an Eden for everyone that visits. The landscape is all about the rainbow-colored mountains, and the hot springs you will find along the way. This area has a unique touch, and it is beautiful from side to side. The colorful mountains contrast with the lava field, and because the hills are made of rhyolite, a specific rock that changes color with the sun, a variety of color shades can be seen.
Hiking in Landmannalaugar is fantastic. You might have heard of the famous Laugavegur Trail. This one starts in Landmannalaugar and ends in Þórsmörk. The total distance covered is about 55 km, and completed in 4 days. The best time to do the hike is from June to September because of the weather.
Landmannalaugar is the perfect place to camp and rest after a long hike across the highlands. You can first rest and then take a calming bath in the geothermal hot pool of Landmannalaugar.
