Þórsmörk
The place with the endless hiking trails
Named after the Norse God Thor, Þórsmörk is a mountain ridge located south of Iceland. It lies between the glaciers of Tindfjallajökull and Eyjafjallajökull. In 2010, this last volcano erupted, leaving the area of Þórsmörk covered in ashes, but after several months everything returned to normal. Þórsmörk is one popular place for hiking lovers.
Summertime is the perfect season to hike in Iceland. The Laugavegur Trail, a 55km long hike, goes from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk. Most people like to sleep here and spend the night. To enjoy a nice time it is recommended to do the hike between three and five days. Check our accommodation options in the Volcano Huts if you like to stay for the night here.
Another trail is Fimmvörðuháls that connects Skógar to the Þórsmörk area. This is a 30km long hike, and it is a beautiful hike to do. Interested in visiting Þórsmörk? Check our tours and activities here, or take a look at our blog for more hiking tips in this paradise.
