A journey through an area of extreme contrasts and geology.
We hike through the typical green “woods” of Iceland, exploring fissures and cavesalong the way.
On the way we visit the Grjótagjá caves made famous in the series “Game of Thrones”
and then hike up to the top of the biggest tephra craterin Europe “Hverfjall” crater (130m) and descend on the steeper southern side.
The route then continues to the “dark castles” Dimmuborgir lava park where we explore lava formations and learn about the trolls that live there and in the
mountains in the area.
Duration: 3-4 hours.
*Guidance and transfer back from Dimmuborgir included!
Transport from Dimmuborgir back to Hike&Bike office.Snowshoes in winter only.

along the way. We climb up to the top of the well known Hverfjall crater
(100m) and descend on the “steeper” southern side. The route then
continues to the “dark castles” Dimmuborgir where we explore lava
formations and learn about the trolls around.
Warm clothes(dress according to weather), hiking boots, water, food.
Please be ready for pickup 30 minutes before departure.
