This tour is a seasonal tour. The reason for it is that the roads that allow access to most of the sites are closed or impassable in the winter time.

Even during the summer months, some sites require special vehicle to get to them. And we have just the kind of jeep you need.

We will also take advantage of this vehicle to drive on the backroads that connect those sites together. It allows us to cruise away from the crowds, and will give you a strong adventure feeling.

Finally, the main perk about this tour is to not only focus on nature, but also gives you an insight of Viking history.

  • Stöng

After driving along a dirt road, in lunar-like landscapes, we will take a short walk to Stöng.

Stöng is the place of archeological findings of a longhouse from the Viking era, probably abandonned after an eruption from Hekla in the 12th century.

  • Gjáin

Among black lava fields and dark mountains, exist an oasis, with rivers and waterfalls flowing down a lushy valley, this is Gjáin.

  • Háifoss and Granni

Háifoss means the “tall waterfall”, and falling from 122m, is one of the tallest waterfall in Iceland. Its neighbor, Granni, is just as magnificient.

There, you will take a 4km hike to go to the bottom of Háifoss and feel its might and power

  • Þjóðveldisbærinn

This exhibition / museum, is a replica of the longhouse that we could previously see in Stöng. This will be the opportunity for us to really understand what life could be like in the viking era in Iceland.

  • Ingólfskáli – Viking restaurant

To conclude our day, but still carry on with the viking thematics, we will have dinner at Ingólfskáli, a viking restaurant with a fine and delicious cuisine, made from locally sourced ingredients.

Icelandic weather can be changing from one extreme to the other very quickly, come with waterproof clothing.

It is also advisable to take a packed lunch with you as there will be no restaurant on our route
