Northern Lights hunt, how does it work?

If you come to Iceland in the wintertime, for sure, you would like to experience the Northern Lights.

They are undoubtedly the most beautiful thing that can be seen in nature during the dark hours of the day.

To see the Northern Lights, you will need two things: Patience and Luck. The luckier you are, the less patient you will need to be!

Northern Lights are only visible when the sky is clear and there is no cloud cover. Basically, if you can see the stars, you can see the Northern Lights. That is, if they happen! And this is when luck and patience come into play. Even with the best conditions, eventually, all you have to do is wait and gaze at the sky!

Description of the tour

Our professional guides will look up weather forecasts to determine in which area our chances of seeing the Northern Lights are the best. We will also always do our best to take you away from all the other tours in big buses. However, roads and weather conditions during the winter months can limit the choice of location that your guide will have.

  • Your guide will pick you up at your hotel at a pre-agreed time
  • Your guide will drive you to a location of their choice, far away from the city lights
  • Once your guide has found a suitable spot, it’s waiting time!
  • Your guide will serve you hot drinks to keep you warm
  • Hopefully, Northern Lights will show up and you will have a spectacular show
  • Your guide will take pictures for you
  • You will be driven back to your accommodation

Northern Lights are an amazing experience and the most beautiful natural phenomenon. But Auroras are like divas, they like to make themselves be desired. Therefore, one must be prepared to wait for them in the dark and cold Arctic night.

Weather conditions and cancellation policy

As we are operating private tours, we offer neither rebook nor refund if no Northern Lights are seen during your tour.

However:

  • We will only operate the tour when the cloud cover forecasts are excellent. We never operate a tour if they are average or unsure
  • We will stay out there as long as it takes
  • We will provide a refund or a rebook if, despite good forecasts, it turns out that cloud cover was 100% and we never found clear skies during your tour
  • Hotel Pickup

Your driver-guide will meet you and pick you up at your hotel

  • Northern Lights Hunt

Our professional and knowledgeable guide will drive you towards the clear skies where the likelihood of seeing the Northern Lights is the highest. You will be gazing at the stars in a deserted place, far away from any source of light polution, while waiting for the Auroras to give you their best show of the night

  • Hotel Drop-Off

Your driver-guide will drop you off at your accommodation after the tour

We will serve you hot drinks to help to keep you warm, but we highly recommend that you also prepare yourself with;

  • Proper footwear with warm socks.
  • Warm clothes, that are preferably also windproof
  • Beanie, gloves, scarf
